PLATES MAKES THE IMAGE

Etching putting print to paper or other materials

Duoprint from aquatint(sink) and dry needle (plastic)

A little while ago I dived into the art of etching. Making engravings in sink-plates, in order to print them on paper as the old masters did.

There are several techniques one can use to create these plates.

Line etch with sink
Dry needle etching in sink or plastic
Aquatint, the gradations in shade and brightness
Vernis Mou, a soft wax to mimic the look and feel of pencil or crayons.

In my work I try to combine these techniques and see how the react on each other. connect and even complement one another.

And even more so I am experimenting with the material we are printing on.

Originally paper used the be the most popular medium. and secondly fabric preferably cotton. This because of the threat to fibre ratio. the open structure the material needs to have in order to absorb the ink.

This gave me more than enough reason to start experimenting with metals that would naturally absorb the ink. Like coated wallpaper or leather.
